Just when things appear to be going well, we get the all too familiar ‘curve ball’ hurling towards us and sometimes such a curve ball can have us stuck in our tracks (at best) or veering off in another direction. Sometimes we get stuck there for far too long and somehow forget the path we were on. We feel ‘powerless’ to pick ourselves up and carry on or even change direction as we feel so beaten down.
We can retreat, withdraw or become angry and irritable as a defence and quite often, we adopt debilitating coping mechanisms to numb the pain or discomfort we’re feeling such as overeating, drinking, drugs, excessive exercise, overworking, shopping and many other self-numbing and self-medicating techniques.
Whilst these may work in the short term, the problem is, the longer we adopt these habits, the more removed we are from solving the real issue. Instead we focus on trying to rid ourselves of the unwanted secondary behaviour, which more often than not, demands more of our effort, energy and attention than the original problem itself.

More and more of us are choosing gratification in the moment rather than striving for our longer term needs and our true real wants. If we looked at where we were stuck or frustrated and resolved this, then we wouldn’t need to adopt undesirable coping mechanisms which inadvertently give us a secondary issue to deal with.
Being in tune with yourself and listening to your core inner needs, can rid you of the need to ‘self medicate’ with excessive, indulgent behaviours and allow you to feel truly good about yourself - more grounded, centred and fulfilled.
I can help you identify what your core issues are (removing the need for excessive numbing techniques) and we can work together to adopt more positive rewarding behaviours and thought patterns.
If this sounds like you, please contact me for a free no-obligation consultation to see if we can work together.
